Support Groups: We offer ongoing free support groups for families and consumers, including:
- monthly Family Support Group for individuals with a loved one with a mental illness,
- monthly Suicide Survivor’s Grief Support Group for individuals who have lost a loved one to suicide,
- bimonthly Autism and Asperger’s Support Group for Parents and Caregivers with a loved one with these disorders,
- bimonthly Asperger’s Support Group for Young Adults,
- weekly Emotional Support Group for individuals dealing with personal issues,
- weekly Mood Disorder Support Group for individuals with depression or bipolar disorder,
- weekly PTSD Support Group for women who are dealing with trauma issues, and
- weekly Club Teen Scene Program for adolescents with psychiatric, behavioral, and emotional disorders.
Educational Programs: We sponsor community programs each and every month, including:
- Family-to-Family, a 12-session educational program, for family members with a loved one with a mental illness,
- WRAP (Wellness Recovery Action Planning), a 12-session program for mental health consumers and those who love and care about them,
- Anger Management, an 8-session program,
- weekly Yoga classes,
- Peer-Guided Introduction to Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, and Communication—a 32-session program for mental health consumers,
- weekly Therapeutic Arts and Crafts Group,
- Brown Bag Mental Health Education Series,
- yearly Mental Health Conference,
- extensive Library of books and videos for check-out, as well as free brochures and materials,
- free Community Presentations on a variety of mental health topics—suicide education and prevention, children’s mental health issues, accommodating students with emotional and psychiatric disabilities, stigma, mental health insurance parity, NAMI: CV programs and services, and more,
- Columbia University TeenScreen Program, a mental health screening program for school districts, and
- Breaking the Silence, a free mental health curriculum for upper elementary, middle school, and high school students
Advocacy: We work at the local, state, and national levels to improve our mental health care system and to guarantee adequate funding for research and services. In addition, we provide empowering, one-on-one peer advocacy services to consumers as well as to the parents of children with mental illnesses.
